Tech Setup

Having a cyberpunk website without a hardware listing feels wrong. So here’s the PCBs, copper and love I carry around.

Laptop

Running a GPD Pocket 4 (opens in a new tab), it’s got enough kick given the form factor and follows me everyday. I barely touch the tablet mode and the screen resolution is too damn high. The 4G expansion keeps me online on the tram, and the machine stays comfortable to work on — I don’t recommend meetings there though.

Phone

Landed on a Fairphone 5 with Murena /e/OS (opens in a new tab). Not gonna bother with the specs argument: it’s average, it’s ok, it’s just a phone. Chats, email and web browsing don’t need the best horse. This pony ensures privacy out of the box and has a removable battery, so it’s more than worth the price.

Gaming

My Steam Deck (opens in a new tab) has been a faithful companion for a few years now. Got an old LCD one, “1st gen” as the purists would say. Old, reliable and competent is my definition of viable. Being able to hop on and off or nerd out for hours is quite the comfort.

Output device?

/r/cyberDeck (opens in a new tab) describes those devices as:

Basically a laptop computer, but using HMD or Neural interface as main output device. Display is optional. OS should use elements of virtual reality for interaction with the computer.

I still lack the neural interface, but the Rayneo Air 4 Pro (opens in a new tab) are a good replacement. Compatible with all my devices, they fit every usage — video games for sure (No Man’s Sky doesn’t feel the same), but working is comfortable too, if you can get past colleagues constantly asking about your new toy.

eReader

I switched to the Note Air 4C (opens in a new tab) to try colored eInk. It makes notetaking beautiful and is obviously a great reader for novels and comics too.

…and the rest

Got a uGreen powerbank (opens in a new tab) and I sometimes fidget with an Anbernic RG Rotate (opens in a new tab).
